Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Anna Nagar, was founded on 1st January 1989, under the able guidance of Swami Chinmayananda, with 11 students and four faculty members. The school is currently run by the Central Chinmaya Mission Trust, Mumbai, headed by H.H.SwamiTejomayananda. Over the years the school has taken shape as one of the most prominent schools of the city. The school is co-educational and the medium of instruction is English. The school has 81 teaching staff and is home to a large family consisting of 2000 students. The Vidyalaya motto is "Keep Smiling" and its means: Being brave and courageous, facing every experience of life with a smile on the face.
The Vidyalaya aims to offer to the children a value based and holistic education. There are subject clubs in the school like literary club, Mathematics club, Science club, and the Social Studies club that keeps the students aware of the latest development in the subjects. The major factor that makes the Vidyalaya a "School with Difference" is the Chinmaya Vision Programme (CVP). The CVP aims at Integrated Development, Physical Development, Mental Development, Intellectual Development, Spiritual Development, Indian Cultural Development and patriotism. The CVP most importantly aims at providing the students with an Universal Outlook.
Activities like Scouting, Road Safety patrol, NCC, Balavihar, Excursions in the school are planned and organised with a view to develop the latent talents in pupils and encourage their creativity and thinking. To instill in pupils the art of self discipline and self governance and to encourage the spirit of healthy competition among them, they are organised into four houses namely Alakananda, Bhagirathi, Cauvery and Ganga. For academic excellence the school has many endowments to reward achievers from each field.
Finally, I conclude by saying that the very name Chinmaya is synonymous with Value Based Education.
